We should be ever-vigilant against leaders who use the tactics of dictators to conceal their intentions and ambitions and to facilitate their overreach of authority.

Donald Trump announced on Twitter last night that he will be suspending all immigration temporarily by an executive order due to the current pandemic:
This is a typical tactic of tyrants and dictators, trying to redirect attention from their own failings and while demonizing a group of people. He claims that this is a temporary measure, but will almost certainly try to keep it in place as long as possible. And this is just another instance of Trump pandering to his base and pushing a xenophobic agenda while covering up his failures in handling the current pandemic. In light of the attack from the Invisible Enemy, as well as the need to protect the jobs of our GREAT American Citizens, I will be signing an Executive Order to temporarily suspend immigration into the United States!— Donald J. Representative Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, is one of several who have called out Trump's actions:
This is clearly a divisive move and yet another attempt by Trump to overreach his authority. The people of this country must remain alert to actions such as this that take advantage of a crisis in order to push forward a dangerous agenda. These are the acts of dictators and should not be accepted in a free and Democratic country. This action is not only an attempt to divert attention away from Trump’s failure to stop the spread of the coronavirus and save lives, but an authoritarian-like move to take advantage of a crisis and advance his anti-immigrant agenda. We must come together to reject his division. https://t.co/wYEai4rYVY— Joaquin Castro (@JoaquinCastrotx) April 21, 2020
