George Floyd Protest in San Antonio Texas

By P.S. White

I participated in the protest rally in San Antonio Texas on Saturday night (a special thank you to the organizers for the successful event).  The people were passionate, engaged, and some were very angry.  But it was a peaceful and poignant event that expressed in the best way possible our outrage over what has happened to George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and more.

Our country is at a pivotal point where injustice against blacks and minorities continues on a daily basis.  Our democracy is also under attack from those who spread hatred, fear, and division and demonstrate contempt towards the rule of law.  We need to be in the streets on a regular basis showing our outrage at that those who have abused and misused their power and also those who have covered up their misdeeds.

The fight for our country is right now, and we will take a stand through peaceful means such as protests like this and speaking out against the hatred, bigotry, and contempt for law that is destroying our democracy.  More protests will follow, and hopefully those who the seek justice, fair treatment, equality, and the civil society that our Constitution promises will win the day.
